What is CBD?

You’ve probably scrolled through social media or talked to a friend and heard all about CBD oil. CBD oil is touted by many as a modern-day miracle, so you can be certain that the CBD movement is just getting started. If current market predictions are even remotely correct, by 2024 the U.S. CBD market is expected to reach 20 billion in annual sales! Fun fact: 20 billion represents 10% of the medical industry’s sales. 

But will all the CBD craziness stop in 2024? Probably not…especially if there’s any truth to all the miracle-cure tales of CBD. And this brings us to the million-dollar-question (or should we say 20 billion-dollar-question)... 

Is CBD the real deal? Or is it simply the biggest snake-oil scheme since the Atkins diet?

Is CBD Oil Really All It’s Cracked Up To Be?

Spoiler alert! CBD is the real deal, but it’s totally understandable why you might question its legitimacy. There just isn’t a lot of information out there —yet— regarding how and why it works. If you’ve spent any time researching CBD oil and how it works, you’ve likely come across more marketing material than actual CBD knowledge: “CBD could help you (insert the blank), but make sure you only purchase quality products from a brand you can trust”. Usually these sorts of helpful hints are followed with a “buy now” button. Sound familiar?                                                                              

If you’re like most, you’ve come away from such experiences feeling hopeful that CBD might be your cure, but still left with the burning question “What is CBD and how does it work?” Or maybe you even purchased said “quality CBD product” in order to continue your quest for knowledge via personal experience.  

In all fairness, educating on CBD is hard. And with a lack of solid research available, it’s no surprise why marketers resort to making half-hearted CBD claims about how it “might”, “could”, or “may” help you with whatever your health concern may be. Can you blame them? They’re trying to make a living after all.

As a final hint, this unifying cause of disease, (not to mention other conditions like pain and fatigue), isn’t isolated to the CBD discussion alone. Yes, CBD is definitely one way to address the source of the problem, but it’s not the only way. Since the inception of modern medicine, doctors have been struggling to remedy this issue.
